Weight Loss Tips for Men

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Compared to women, men find it easier to achieve weight loss and win the battle against the bulge. However to achieve consistent and sustained weight loss men have to have oodles of discipline, motivation and self control for the key to successful weight loss is abstinence from all those delicious tasting food that are finger lickingly good.

First of all you have to modify your unhealthy lifestyle and bring about a complete overhaul of your diet. You have to eliminate all sorts of oily fatty food, junk food, red meat, alcohol, aerated drinks etc and substitute them with whole wheat products, fresh fruits and fruit juices, green leafy veggies, lean meat, lean protein, olive oil etc.

Since water – an appetite suppressant – flushes out the toxins in your body and completely drives out constipation, drink gallons of water, lime juice, herbal tea etc.

You should eat only when you feel hungry.  Not because the cookies or fritters look tempting. Unless you stop your snacking habits, your waistline won’t improve. If you feel hungry between meals chomp on salads or fruits like Acai berry or guava.

Next you have to concentrate on exercise. The fastest way to lose weight is to build muscles by practicing weight lifting and muscle building exercises that will accelerate the metabolic rate of the body.

Along with these resistance training and strength training and cardio workouts will prove to be very beneficial. You can combine them with power yoga.

High impact scuba diving will help to burn 300 calories, playing beach volleyball will burn 340 calories, vigorous stroke swimming will lead to the shedding of 450 calories, water polo and serious martial arts training will burn 430 calories, fast bicycling and playing squash will lead to a loss of 500 calories and running at a pretty fast pace emerges as the topper with 550 calories burning rate. All these figures are for a 30 minute practice session.

The bottom-line is that playing your favorite form of outdoor sports, especially high intensity games like water polo, soccer, cricket, tennis etc will help you lose weight fast. Along with these you have to utilize every opportunity for walking because your goal must be walking 10000 steps a day.

If you are too hard pressed for time, you can run or walk on your tread mill indoors, but walking briskly outdoors with your family members or friends or neighbors or with your dog will be of more benefit than doing it alone.

Always see to it that you perspire a lot while exercising or else it won’t be of value. But don’t overdo your exercise regimen for it will tire you out, result in muscle tear, muscle sprain and besides your body won’t get the time to repair the damage and take some much needed rest. Exercising 4 to 5 times a week is more than sufficient.

Simple, Effective Weight Loss Tips

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Losing weight and battling your bulge aren’t that difficult if you are determined to do it. Even weight loss follows that old mantra – no pain, no gain. There are no miraculous solutions or wonder drugs that can solve your weight woes. You have to do it the hard way through proper diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications.

It is better if you don’t get fooled by the colorful and attractive advertisements of weight loss pills and dietary supplements because not only are they mostly ineffective, they might also perennially damage your body and mess up your interiors. Besides they are a big waste of money.

Of course you need to include fresh fruits and green vegetables, fresh fruit juices, whole wheat products, soy products, lentils, legumes, beans, olive oil etc in your diet and give up on alcohol, red meat, cakes, pastries, junk food, aerated drinks, oily, fatty buttery food etc.

Drink gallons of water. High impact aerobics combined with power yoga and weight training or vigorous dancing are all effective in fighting the bulge.
Of more effect are resistance training, weight lifting, muscle building, strength training exercises and cardio workouts which accelerate the body’s metabolism rate and help it to burn calories faster.

Whenever possible take to the stairs and climb up instead of taking the elevator or the escalator. This is a great calorie burner and helps you stay fit as well.
Doing household chores is a great way of shedding some flab through exercise, so start enjoying household chores.

A naughty way of burning 100 odd calories is to get steamy under the sheets but you have to indulge in vigorous sex for around 30 minutes to make this possible.
If you are really serious about losing weight and staying fit, you should take up some kind of outdoor sports that you enjoy, be it tennis, cricket, soccer, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, water polo, swimming, bicycling, squash, scuba diving, snorkeling, golf (without using the cart), martial arts, running etc.

These are all strenuous physical activities and playing these games will not only affect your waistline in a positive way but also contribute to your overall health and fitness and keep diseases at bay. The main thing is to kick your sedentary lifestyle and couch potato ways and get physically active. Half the battle will be won then.

Don’t become so over enthusiastic about your exercise regimen that you end up becoming a fitness freak and tearing your muscles or damaging your ligaments through excessive exercise without allowing your body time for recuperation. This will damage your body in the long run. Always remember to follow the directions of your fitness instructor and 4/5 days of exercising every week is sufficient.

Real Life Diet Tips for the Average Americans

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

If you are tired and feeling stressed out from hearing diet tips created for the wealthy and the privileged, there is good news for you.  Here are four diet tips for the average Joe and Jane.

Real Life Diet Tip #1: Be Smart When Eating Out
Eating out is fun and easy.  It means you don’t have to prepare your own meals, serve it and clean up after it.  What a huge load off your back!  Or so it may seem initially.  But what becomes the real problem with eating out is not the dollars you will need to have to afford this kind of luxury, but the selection of food that are served in these restaurants.  They tend to focus too much on the taste and appeal.  The dishes they served are usually laden with delicious, absolutely scrumptious and fattening kinds of foods!  If you eat too much of this good tasting stuff, you won’t be looking so good very soon in the near future.

So what can we do to overcome this issue?  Stay cool; there are three easy solutions you choose from.  Firstly, you can choose to split the meal with a good friend.  Ask a friend to come along and share your meals equally.  Usually a normal serving is huge.  Secondly, you can ask for a doggie bag.  Eat half of what is served and take the rest home.  Finally, you can ask to order from the kid’s meal, if possible.  Meals prepared for kids are created in smaller portions and it is good for your weight loss efforts if you order from this list.  This is one of the most powerful weight loss tips for the average American that not only saves you money but lets you lose the weight easily by reducing food intake.

Real Life Diet Tip #2: Snacking
If you have bars of snickers, Hershey’s or M&M’s in your office desk drawer, get rid of all those stuff immediately.  Instead you might want to bring along a food container storing some of your well-prepared fruit recipes or salads and place them near to you for easy reach  Whenever you feel inclined to eat something, reach out and grab a piece of those.  It will put your hunger or cravings at bay.  Some examples of food that you can place in the container would be sliced pineapples, apple with low fat dips and cucumber slices.

Real Life Diet Tip #3: Don’t Buy Canned Food
The best kinds of food are those that are freshly prepared and served as soon as they are ready.  Nothing can beat the taste and nutritional value of a home cooked meal.  But when you are busy with work and building your career, or if you are living alone, cooking and preparing our own meals can be a very daunting and tedious task.  Most of us would chose to dine out or buy pre-prepared meals that comes in frozen form or even canned food.

Canned food is rich in salt or sodium, which is bad for your weight loss plan; they will store water and causes you to gain weight.  Instead, opt for frozen food if you need to have pre-prepared meals ready made.  It is easy to split the frozen food into two or three and save the rest for tomorrow.  Not only this saves your effort to lose weight, it saves you money.

Real Life Diet Tip #4: Prepare Your Meal Slowly
It is important to pay attention when you prepare those meals.  It seems to send a message to your subconscious mind that you are making something for your dinner or lunch and you are eating.  This small move tends to fill you up and you will be less likely to start feeling hungry within the next hour or two.  Sometimes, when we are doing two things at one time, it is easy to disregard one action and then feeling the urge to that all over again, just because we were not paying attention during the first time.

This is very true when eating is in question.  We often do not miss out on the opportunity to fill our bellies with our favorite food, even when we had just finished our meal a few hours ago.  This is very apparent when you eat while standing up and talking, you will tend to forget you had had your meal and your body will soon start to crave for more food to fill it up. Now, how often does that happen to you before?
